
Emily Hayward, Research Assistant
Biography
Emily is a Research Assistant with a strong interest in developmental psychology and psychopathology. She completed her BSc (Hons) Psychology at York St John University. Before graduating, Emily was selected through the Students as Researchers Summer Scheme to work on the Adults with Learning Disabilities in Austerity (ALDA) Study. After graduating, Emily worked as an Assistant Psychologist at The Retreat and supported the development of a system to record clinical outcome measures and research governance.
She completed a Research Internship at the Wolfson Centre for Child Development and Family Research and worked on an ESRC-funded RCT promoting the use of a smart-phone app in improving wellbeing and the quality of infant-mother interaction. Prior to joining the ComBAT team, Emily worked in the NHS supporting the successful completion of two national multi-centre MRC and HTA-funded studies; the Diagnostic Instruments for Autism in Deaf Children Study (DIADS) and the Alleviating Specific Phobias Experienced by Children Trial (ASPECT).
Role in ComBAT
Emily is delighted to continue her journey in child and adolescent mental health research and contribute to the development of low-intensity and accessible interventions for adolescents with depression. In her role as a Research Assistant on ComBAT Emily will be responsible for: participant recruitment from CAMH, third-sector and school-based wellbeing services, preparation and submission of documents for IRAS ethics submission, supporting the development of participant facing documentation and co-production of intervention materials, supporting with the development of the web interface for Behavioural Activation intervention delivery, and leading on the qualitative element of ComBAT’s feasibility study and RCT.
